Durham Trades Meeting - March 4th 2009

On Wednesday, March 4th, Michael Ivanco met with members of the board of the Central Ontario Building Trades Eastern Region at their offices in Bowmanville. They represent most of the tradespersons who would be doing the work at a Darlington new build. Although they will get a lot of work regardless of who builds, AECL, Areva or Westinghouse. Michael offered compelling reasons why they should support CANDU. In particular, if a CANDU reactor is built in Darlington, it will mean that new factories to produce components will be built in Ontario whereas Areva is building most of their supply chain base, outside of France, in the United States. The building trades in Ontario won't be buiilding any of those factories south of the border. A number of board members expressed open support for the CANDU option
